Alright, Day 3 in Arizona, and the second out of three days at the Grand Canyon.
After sleeping in (which is about 7 camping standard time), we took a 10 mile hike on the historic Widforss Trail that runs alongs the North Rim. Under first impression, “Widforss” sounds like goofy slang or a careless typo for “wild forest”, but Gunnar Widforss was actually a painter famous for the geological detail of his works of the Grand Canyon.
The trail concludes with “Widforss Point” that provides a wonderful outlook of the Canyon where we stopped for an hour to eat lunch, relax, and explore. The crew picture was taken here. We hiked a bit off the trail down hill and discovered tons of fossils embedded in the rocks of shells and small creatures from when the canyon was covered by water millions of years ago.
The Kaibob forest on the North side of the Colorado river is also home to many unique creatures such as the Kaibob Squirrel and the Horned Lizard or “horny toad”. (Pictured)
