Here’s the pictures from day 2 at Rocky Mountain National Park and day 9 of this out west trip.
We camped overnight at Aspen Meadows and continued on the North Fork Trail for 4 miles to Lost Lake. Nearly the entire hike was uphill and our campsite was at about 10,500ft elevation, which is the highest we’ve camped yet.
Lost Lake is almost entirely surrounded by ridges and is fed by melting snow. While most of the snow on the ground is melted, there are some areas in shade that have two to four feet of snow still.
The temperature can drop up to 5° for every 1,000 feet of elevation gain. Because of the freezing night temperatures, there’s still snow on the ground and the sap on the trees has frozen solid.
