Make Any Old Headset Bluetooth (TechTip)

Updated: Jan 11, 2020

Estimated Price: $20

Estimated Time: 25 Minutes

It seems that the latest trend is a bluetooth headset. Especially when major name brands such as Beats, Sennheisser, and LG get into the deal. Apple is rumored to not include the audio jack in the new iPhone 7, which will increase the demand for these new gadgets. However, if you are like me, there's no way that I'm dropping $150 on new technology that will be outdated by the end of next week, (sarcasm) So I always like to save a few bucks and find a way to make one myself.

What you will need:

-A Headphone Set with audio input (If you don't already have one at home, you can probably buy one off of someone for something like twenty cents.)

-Bluetooth Receiver ($15) https://goo.gl/mkzais ------->

-Scotch Tape or any other adhesive

-Screwdriver

Step One: Remove the ear pads from the headphones and unscrew the covers so that the speaker is exposed.

Step Two: On one phone, turn the wire around and bring it through the top of the phone rather the bottom. Bring the cord up and over the headband and use the adhesive to stick. If there is an external volume control, I just pasted mine at the very top of the band. If the two left and right cords meet at the top, make sure that either the left or right cord is still free while the other goes to the altered phone and bring the other and the main down together down the headband and into the top of the next phone.

Step Three: Within the second phone, wrap up the excess cord so that it fits inside the enclosed phone, and leave about four inches of the master cord available so that it can be brought through the hole at the bottom of the phone (where the original cord went through and can be brought up to the outside of the phone.

Step Four: Remove the connector from the bluetooth receiver and plug the phones into it. Stick the connector onto the outside of the phone (Instead of the inside because the encasement will interfere with the antenna) And connect it to your phone or computer via bluetooth.

Hoped you like this project, and will not feel offended by the 1980s Space Alien costume you just made yourself. You can send me questions or comments to gmail@natecentral.com
